Guidelines for Scholarships From the Atlanta Branch Memorial Fund
Endowed by Legacies from Bennett Hamer and Zoe McLaughlin
Administered by the Atlanta Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, Inc.
Use the online form below to apply for a scholarship to an event or for a special project.
Grants for a limited number of scholarships to attend Scottish Country Dance events, as well as other projects to promote the continuity of Scottish Country Dancing, are provided from the legacy received from Bennett Hamer, funds received from the Zoe McLaughlin Fund, and any future donations from supporters of Scottish Country Dancing. Scholarships may be requested for attendance at Atlanta Branch workshops, or non Atlanta Branch events including Blue Ridge Scottish Country Dance School, TAC Summer School, Spring Fling / Spring Fringe (now offered in North America for the first time in 2020), or RSCDS Summer/Winter/Youth School in Scotland.
The Fund is available to further the interest of Scottish Country Dancing in the Southeast and help perpetuate the aims of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, which are:
- to preserve and further the practice of tradional Scottish Country Dancing;
- to provide, or assist in providing, special education or instruction in the practice of Scottish Country Dancing;
- to promote/publish by all available means information and music relating to Scottish Country Dancing and in particular to publish or cause to be published descriptions of Scottish Country Dances with music and diagrams in simple form and at moderate price;
- to collect books, manuscripts, illustrations and other memorabilia relating to Scottish Country Dancing and to the Society;
- generally to do such other things as are or may be considered by the Society to be incidental or conducive to the attainment of the objects above stated or any of them.
Requests for Atlanta Branch events may be considered from those applicants who have actively participated in branch functions/events or those who are willing to volunteer with activities before, during, or after the event. Branch members who have been members for a minimum of one year and a day will be considered for full scholarships. Non-members or more recent members will be considered for up to half the cost of the scheduled event. Requests for non-Atlanta Branch events may be weighted to those applicants who have been actively involved in Scottish Country Dancing and are willing to pass on the benefits and knowledge gained from their training.
All funds will be disbursed on a reimbursement basis.
All requests and awards will be kept confidential.
Requests for other projects will be considered on a one-time basis and must benefit Scottish Country Dancing. Any member of the Atlanta Branch may submit an application. All applications from non-members must be endorsed by a Branch member.
Applications must be submitted in writing, either using the online form (below), or by printing and completing this application form (click here), and mailing the form via US Mail to: RSCDS Atlanta Branch, Inc., Post Office Box 1941, Marietta, GA 30061-1941. All applications will be reviewed by the Committee of Management with the assistance of Marshall McLaughlin at their next Board Meeting.
