SUMMARY:April Social and Anniversary Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:  \nHello Dancers! \nThe Atlanta Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society is proud to celebrate it’s 50th anniversary this year! Since 1976\, we have all enjoyed the dancing\, but more importantly\, the laughter\, fellowship\, and fun\, that have followed. \nJust a few short weeks ago many of us danced together at the annual Spring Workshop\, made special with some added anniversary festivities. It was a wonderful event\, and we feel so grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to making it so successful. We approached 100 dancers\, unveiled our 50th anniversary book\, and connected with friends from far and near. \nTo continue our year of celebrations\, we are planning an Anniversary Luncheon\, and you are invited! In lieu of our normal April Social\, we will be hosting an extended event. We will meet in the fellowship hall at St. James’ Episcopal Church in Marietta at noon. The branch will be providing lunch\, and the normal social fee is waived for the occasion. We are hoping that any Atlanta dancer from the past 50 years will join us for the camaraderie. If you know any current or former dancers from the area\, please pass the invite along! \nAfter lunch\, we are hosting a social dance. The program\, devised by Susan Tumlin and Bob Messner\, features walkable dances\, old favorites\, and some new offerings from our 50th anniversary book (which will be available for anyone wanting to collect). Whether you choose to dance\, walk\, or watch\, it should be an enjoyable afternoon for everyone. \nWhile the Spring Workshop was a grand affair\, we are hoping this luncheon will provide a more intimate environment for Atlanta dancers to reconnect\, laugh\, and share memories. DESCRIPTION:Loch Norman Highland Games are held each April on the ground of Rural Hill plantation in Huntersville\, NC.  There will be dancing Friday and Saturday nights at Hopewell Presbyterian Church (10500 Beatie’s Ford Rd\, Huntersville\, NC).  There will be dancing at the games on Saturday and Sunday.  The dancing is provided by the RSCDS Carolina’s branch. SUMMARY:Midway Spring Workshop and Dance 2026
DESCRIPTION:Lexington Scottish Country Dance Society will be having a workshop and dance on Saturday\, May 30\, 2026.  The workshop will take place 2-5pm.  The workshop is for dancers who know the basic steps (skip change\, slip step\, pad de basque\, and strathspey traveling and setting) as well as reels of 3 and 4\, corner figures\, pousette\, and allemande.  There will be a break for dinner which is on your own.  A social dance will begin at 7:30pm. \nTracey Applebee will teaching the workshop.  Tracey is a certified RSCDS teacher who has taught classes and workshops in the US and Canada.  She was raised in Canada and her mother was a certificated teacher as well.  Her parents would have dance parties in the basement to Jimmy Shand recordings.  The family later moved to Detroit where Tracey continued to dance and was encouraged to become a teacher.  She received her full certificate in 1994 at TAC.  She has been actively teaching in the Cincinnati area since.  She is an occupational therapist and able to analyze movements to help people improve and enjoy dancing. \nLive music will be provided during the social dance by Keltricity.  Keltricity is a Celtic World band playing music of Scotland\, Ireland\, Cape Breton\, England\, Brittany\, New England\, etc.  They play for Scottish Country Dances\, English Country Dances\, and other vintage dance groups. \nRegistration should be submitted to Joyce Chase for the workshop and/or dance. Cost is $50 to attend both workshop and dance. Cost is $30 to attend only the workshop or only the dance. Registration should be received by May 15\, 2026. For any questions\, contact Joyce Chase or Robby McCain. Two scholarships are available based on need. \nLocal dancers may be able to provided limited hospitality. Contact Paige Quillen if hospitality is needed. A block of rooms has been held until April 29 at Hampton Inn in Frankfort\, KY for $137 for double queen. Hampton Inn is 15 miles from Midway and can be reached at (502)223-7600. SUMMARY:Stone Mountain Scottish Games and Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:Held annually on the 3rd week in October\, the Stone Mountain games is one of the largest in the US.  The field includes a large dance platform where Scottish Country Dancing is provided Saturday and Sunday.  Demonstrations are also provided by branch members.  Dances will be held Friday and Saturday nights at the host hotel\, Hilton Atlanta Northeast (a.k.a. the castle on the hill).  The games has arranged for a special rate for stays between Thursday and Sunday which can be made here:  Hilton Northeast \nThe hotel has sold out the last several years\, so attendees should book as early as possible.  More details about dancing will be updated on the web site closer to the time of the games.
